you learn how to safely rappel and do several rappels
before returning to the store for the rappelling test

Motorcycle Ride
We welcome you to join us as we ride in commemoration
of DeKalb County's Cherokee Indian Heritage and all
Indian Nations who were forced to walk on the Infamous
Trail of Tears. The DeKalb County Tourist Association
in Fort Payne, will serve as the congregating location
for bikers in their preparation to depart on the 7th
Annual John Benge Commemorative Ride Saturday at 7 a.m.
The ride is strictly voluntary and you Ride at Your Own
Risk. The John Benge Ride is in remembrance of those who
walked this trail and brings awareness to this tragedy.

Trail of Tears Thousands of Native Americans were
taken from their homelands and sent to new territory in
Oklahoma during the Indian Removal Act of the 1830’s.

Cultures of Little River
From the ice age to DeSoto’s expedition, Little River
Canyon and Lookout Mountain are rich in the heritage of
native peoples. JSU’s Dr. Harry Holstein will fascinate
you with stories of the earliest inhabitants of the
region. Archaeological data from nearby sites will be

October 3 Native American Pottery Workshop Join
expert potter, Tammy Beane, to learn how pottery was
made on Lookout Mountain thousands of years ago. We’ll
provide the clay as well as bone needles and paddles to
make designs on your pots. A handout will be provided
detailing the firing techniques discussed in the

DeKalb Counties

Cornwall Iron Furnace, a Spanish contact site at Coosa
village, a rock shelter in use as early as 3000 B.C.,

This 23rd annual decorating of Eddie’s Garden
Center in Henagar is a fun tradition. With over 75
Christmas trees, each with individual themes, it’s
impossible to see everything in just one trip. Stroll
through the Christmas Wonderland and see how each room
has been tastefully decorated for the holidays.
Ornaments ranging from western to whimsical, cartoons to
retro, Victorian to collegiate – there’s truly something
for everyone. An open house takes place during the first

Winter Fairy
Houses & Hobbit Hike (Children’s Nature Observation
Skills)
Pausing in the
woods or along the river to create a small structure for
the good folk gives children the opportunity to bond
with nature on a very personal level. She’ll also lead a
short “hobbity” hike through an enchanted forest to
identify places where fairies might live or play to
teach observation skills to budding young naturalists.
Award-winning storyteller and naturalist Renee Morrison
was taught to make fairy houses by her grandmother and
has been making fairy houses with her sons and nature
campers for decades. CEUs available for this workshop. JSU’s
